The Human Advantage: How AI Strengthens HR

Written by Business Toolbox | Aug 28, 2025 1:48:31 AM

Across industries, AI is now entering the HR workspace via chatbots, content generation, overview summaries, and recruitment systems, to say the least, boosting efficiency and easing the burden for the HR team. Here at Business Toolbox, we are all here for it!

“Larger businesses are seeing the value of AI and are investing accordingly. A 2024 Datacom survey revealed that 67% of larger New Zealand businesses now utilise some form of AI, representing a substantial increase from 48% in 2023, suggesting New Zealand is catching up rapidly.  (Datacom, 2024)" - MBIE

Rather than seeing AI as a threat, it should be seen as a helping hand, although not perfect, it can considerably save HR professionals time and resources to focus more on data-led decision-making to further improve the employee experience within the organisation.

Below, we will discuss a number of ways that AI is currently being adopted in HR.

  • Performance Management

When assessing an employee's performance within the organisation, it's no longer as simple as whether the manager feels they are doing well or not; now these can be tracked through goal setting, peer feedback and annual and mid-year assessments. With the use of AI, it can provide an actionable overview of feedback, saving managers hours digesting and analysing the feedback from peers. Additionally, this can also generate useful SMART ideas for goal settings / KPIs.
  • Generate and Summarise Reporting

Analysing complex employee data can be a daunting task. AI and HR Systems like BambooHR have the ability to process a large amount of employee data, which includes performance, compensation and even survey results, providing valuable insights and suggestions. With this capability, HR teams can make evidence-based decisions around overall employee experience, company culture and leverage surveys to track trends to see improvement over time.
  • Employee Engagement with Chatbots

With the use of AI chatbots, employees receive immediate answers to common HR-related questions such as company policies, guidelines, and time-off, regardless of the time or day. You can even feed in documents with common employee questions to "teach" the AI chatbot how to answer questions specific to your organisation. This not only streamlines communication but also empowers employees to find the information they need independently, fostering a sense of autonomy and satisfaction. By minimising waiting times and reducing the volume of repetitive queries HR teams must address, chatbots enable HR professionals to devote more attention to strategic initiatives and personalised employee support.
  • Learning and Development

Learning Management Systems are getting smarter and smarter over time. One of the most daunting, time-consuming tasks in learning & development is the creation of courses tailored to employees. AI has grown to be able to generate learning content and assessments that would normally take hours to create, and can now be done within a few minutes. If you have a number of SOP documents & policies that are yet to be converted to e-learning content, you can load them in an LMS like TalentLMS which can use AI to build fantastic online courses in minutes - complete with images, flashcards, and knowledge check questions.
  • Talent Acquisition

With the use of AI applications, HR teams are able to write compelling  job descriptions with ease, efficiently review resumes and streamline applicant communications.  By automating repetitive tasks like sending templated emails, generating offer letters, and managing onboarding activities, these solutions accelerate the entire hiring process—reducing administrative workloads and ensuring that top talent is engaged and onboarded with speed and ease.

AI can alleviate much of the time-consuming work that traditionally burdens HR professionals. This, in turn, allows HR teams to redirect their efforts toward employee-focused priorities such as shaping organisational strategy, enhancing employee wellbeing, and fostering a strong, inclusive company culture.
